Review: Reckoning (The Arotas Trilogy #2) by Amy Miles

Book Description (via Goodreads):
Gabriel is gone.

Roseline is left with questions that refuse answers and only the memory of a man she vows to hunt and kill. But to do so, she must call a truce with her sworn enemy.

Together, Roseline and Nicolae track Fane to the underbelly of London, in search of Gabriel’s kidnappers. But when Malachi- an Immortal with mystifying origin- presents himself as their guide, Roseline discovers she is not the only one looking for Gabriel.

Buried within the secret chambers of the infamous Hellfire Club, Roseline discovers a grim truth: Gabriel isn’t just a pawn being used by the Arotas prophecy, and those who seek to control its power. He is Arotas.

Everything Roseline has ever known about her brethren is about to change. Emotions flare, friendships sever and the newly formed bonds between enemies are tested as she delves into realms hardly conceived. They are trapped in the midst of a battle that has been waging since the beginning of time.

The prophecy binds them all together. But will they break before the end?
My Review:
This book is the 2nd in the Arotas trilogy by Amy Miles. If you have not read my review for book one please refer to it so you will know what I am talking about, its on both Goodreads and here.

Ok so this book picks up basically where book 1 left off, which I liked. It doesn't stay that way though, its actually a lot different than book 1, there is more action, enemies become friends, new character's are introduced, What I especially liked about this book was the newly made friendship between Roseline and Nicolae. It was nice to see him go from creepy to a close friend and someone she became able to depend on in her journey to try and find Gabriel. Also as you know in book 1 (if you have read it) Roseline turned Gabriel at the end, but we find out he is much more than just an Immortal, I'm not gonna say what he is because I don't wanna spoil too much. But he is basically thrust into a whole other world and he has to learn this world and how to survive it or he will die. He basically has to learn who he really is. Another pivotal point was when Roseline FINALLY gets her revenge on Vladamir, and she got it good. Fane plays a big part in Roseline's part of the book, which at first he is none too happy about, but he get's over it I guess you could say and again becomes the one who wants to protect Roseline. I feel bad for him considering his feelings for her, but not too bad because I'm team Gabriel all the way! HAHA. The book switches between Roseline's point of view and Gabriel's since they are in separate places at the moment. One thing I did miss in this book was my Roseline/Gabriel romance, but, that being said, it didn't make me like the book any less.

Overall, if you liked book 1, you will like this book, lots of twists, lots more action. I will definitely continue the series as I can't wait to find out what happens with these characters.

Review: The Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy by E.L. James

Book Description of book One (via Goodreads):

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

 My Review:

Going into reading this series, i was a bit reluctant because of how alot of people in the media called it like "hardcore erotica" which is not really my cup of tea. But since they are making it into movies i did want to get it a chance, and i am beyond glad i did. First of all, if you like me are reluctant to read this because of how it is described in the media and such, don't be its really not THAT bad. I mean, yes there is erotica, and some other things I'm sure everyone knows about already but i discovered when reading this that the storyline was much bigger than those parts. So for me the storyline, which at it's heart is actually a story of discovering the love of your life in maybe the most unexpected of situations, or finding them at all when you don't deserve love at all. These books gave me so many emotions, i would one minute be laughing at one scene and the next scene crying, or one scene be happy with whats going on and the next scene be saying "oh hell no!". Christian Grey is, well to say the least, a very complicated man with a very sad and complicated past. But at his heart, when he lets his guard down, i think he is every woman's dream guy. Yes, sometimes i wanted to smack him, but other times i just wanted to hug him. And i think every girl can relate to Ana in some way. She is a very normal girl, just finished college, trying to start a career, and then she is in one meeting thrust into a world she had never imagined. And one she is not sure she can be in. I loved seeing how Ana was able to break down the hard shell Christian had put up (mostly), over the course of the 3 books, and see how different he is in book 3 than he was in book 1. Yes he still has his issues, and considering his past and childhood I'm sure he always will, but he has went from being a guy who see's women as only good for one thing really to a unexpected romantic who falls in love and falls in love with everything that brings (even if he is raging mad at first). And that is all because of Ana. Who i found to be very strong, she goes through alot of things in these books that I'm not sure i could go through, some of it degrading to her, but she always seems to work things out for the better and she ends up with what every girl dreams of. These books will definitely be added to my favorite's list. I can't wait to see how they are brought to the big screen. I think everyone should gives these books a chance, because like i said at its heart its a hard-core love story. And that's the most important thing of all, i think Christian and Ana prove in these books that maybe love can conquer all.

Review: Guardians: The Turn by Lola St.Vil

Book Description (via Goodreads):
There. Will. Be. Blood.
After the Council hands down a severe punishment,
A Guardian declares war on the Angel world.

Before the end
Lives will be lost
Love will be tested
And blood WILL flow...
My Review:
I recieved a copy of this for review by the author so first i want to thank her for generously letting me read her book.

First i have to start off by saying "What a cliffhanger!". Wow, was so not expecting that one. But thats what makes a good book. Anyway, so this book, pretty much follow's the fallout of Miku (who now calls herself Red) turning. And boy did she turn. That is one angry Angel, if you can even call her that anymore. This book pretty much jumps right into action from the start. And throughout the book the Guardians are left to deal with the fallout of Miku having turned and all the chaos and distruction she has caused as well as the fact that they have not found the Triplex and there is the ever-present issue of the Emmy/Marcus/Ameana triangle... well not really a triangle at this point its more Emmy & Marcus and a very pissed off and bitter Ameana. But i guess i can't blame her, even though im team "Emmy" when it comes to Marcus. There is trouble at every turn for these Angels and human, and i think thats what keeps it interesting, you never know whats gonna happen next. And this book has proven to be the book that has the most shocks and revelations in it. This series just gets better with each book. I dont know how i can wait until Jan. for book 4! The suspense will probably kill me! HAHA. Great book from a great author. Would so recommend this.

My Review:
I was generously given a copy of book 1, Guardians: The Girl in return for a honest review.  So thanks Lola for the book!
While i have only read a few books about angels this one really stands out among them as one of the good ones. I found myself reading it so long sometimes at night, i would look up and all of a sudden it would be 4am when it only seemed as though minutes passed. I'll try to give my review without giving away too much of the book but i'm not always so good at doing that so here's to hoping haha. The book center's around a group of angels called Guardians who are sent to Earth to basically save the world, and they only get one clue which ends up being a girl named Emerson (or Emmy as she is often called), so she is essentially thrust from her life into a world of angels and gods and evil that has apparently surrounded her all the time though she never knew it. The thing i liked about Emmy is that she had always felt like she was unwanted, but she was still willing to help save a world she didn't feel she should be in in the first place. I found that to be a very good quality in her. Emmy ends up falling for the first Guardian, Marcus who returns her feelings but is with another of the Guardians, which causes quite a bit of problems for the 3 of them to say the least. There are 6 Guardians who need Emmy's help to like i said, save the world, and they have to do so while at the same time protecting not only themselves from harm but Emmy as well as the evil of the world wants to destroy what they are trying to save. All the Guardians were very likable (AMimi .... maybe not as much as she is the you-know-what of the crew) but the rest of them were very likable and had quite entertaining personalities. I really liked that the book could go from everything to being find to possibly the death of someone within a few pages, there is alot of action in this book which i also found enjoyable, it was not overdone as some books are. Overall i would definately recommend this book, it has drama, romance, action, good vs. evil, forbidden love, race against time stuff - so if you like that kinda thing you will definately like this book, i very much enjoyed it and look forward to the other books in the series. Happy Reading!

Review: Swoon by Nina Malkin

Book description (via Goodreads): Sin is coming... Prepare to Swoon.Torn from her native New York City and dumped in the land of cookie-cutter preps, Candice is resigned to accept her posh, dull fate. Nothing ever happens in Swoon, Connecticut...until Dice's perfect, privileged cousin Penelope nearly dies in a fall from an old tree, and her spirit intertwines with that of a ghost. His name? Sinclair Youngblood Powers. His mission? Revenge. And while Pen is oblivious to the possession, Dice is all too aware of Sin. She's intensely drawn to him—but not at all crazy about the havoc he's wreaking. Determined to exorcise the demon, Dice accidentally sets Sin loose, gives him flesh, makes him formidable. Now she must destroy an even more potent—and irresistible—adversary, before the whole town succumbs to Sin's will. Only trouble is, she's in love with him. What do you do when the boy of your dreams is too bad to be true?"

My Review:
Round 2 of reading Swoon! Didn't review it the first time so gonna do it this time. I really like this book, it has a good plot which is very different from what is usually put out there these days. I don't want to give too much away, but basically the book is about a girl named Candice or "Dice" for short, who moves to the town of Swoon from New York, and basically lives alone because her parents are only there on the weekends due to their work. Well her cousin Pen becomes posessed - and im sure by now you know who was possessing her lol. Anyway there is a ritual done where they think they are ridding him from Pen but instead they are actually releasing him into the world. Where he is out for revenge for a death of his gf or fiancee which happened in the 1700's and he was put to death for her murder, which he didn't commit. So since the people who were alive when that happened are dead by now, he decides he will just take the revenge out on their living relatives, very distant relatives seeing as it did happen in the 1700's. I do think guys would enjoy this book just as much as girls. It did have romance (which i love!) but it didn't have it in a conventional way. It was more like a "i love you because i have no choice" on Dice's part and a "i love you but i'm still gonna destroy everyone you care about and i dont care what you think of it" on Sin's part, but when they were alone together you still got the deep feelings they had for each other. Having never read about a character of Sin's kind, i have to say i was pleasently surprised by my feelings towards him. I did have my moments of wondering why in the world she was even bothering with him, but then the next thing i know i would be rooting for them, or him, to be the person he really was instead of a person filled with hate and anger. I will say going towards the end of the book some of the stuff said and such didn't make much sense to me, like i didn't understand where it was coming from or what they were talking about, but it didn't last long. So overall very good book, good characters, and now i'm on to book 2! Happy reading!
